Using the program: Wash items
Windows
- Clear Recent documents list (Start menu -> Documents) - This cleans the history of recent documents that you have opened. The document history is stored under the Windows Start Button under the Documents menu item (Start -> Documents).
- Clear Run history (Start menu -> Run
) - This cleans the history of files you have run using the Run command. The Run history is stored under the Windows Start Button under the Run menu item (Start -> Run
).
- Clear Search history (Start menu -> Find) - This cleans the history of files you have searched for using the Find/Search command. The Search history is stored under the Windows Start Button under Find/Search, then File/Folders menu item (Start -> Find/Search -> Files/Folders
).
- Purge Temporary files directory - This purges the Windows temporary directory (usually "C:\Windows\TEMP"). The Windows temporary directory stores temporary files that are used during installation of programs and at other various times. Cleaning this directory regularly is generally a good idea. (Note: All contents of this directory are purged during a wash, so be sure that there are no files contained in this directory that you wish to keep or that are needed by other programs).
- Purge Recycle Bin - This purges all of the files that are contained in the Windows Recycle Bin.
- Purge Windows Clipboard - This purges the Windows Clipboard contents.
- Clear Recent files lists of the standart Windows applications & Media Player - This cleans the history of files you have opened with the standart Windows applications (Wordpad, Paint, etc.) and Windows Media Player last visited directories and recent files list.
- Clear File and folder dialogs recent data - This cleans the history of the Windows "Browse for file" and "Browse for folder" dialogs.
- Clear Recent wallpaper files list - This cleans the history of the recent wallparer files you used.
- Clear Most frequently used programs list from Start menu (Windows XP+) - This clears all of the shortcut in Windows XP Start menu for programs you run recently.
- Delete Windows boot log files - This deletes Windows boot log files (wich windows creates during startup).
- Delete Scandisk temporary files - The Windows utility Scan Disk creates Scandisk.log and *.CHK files at the root directory of drives. Latters usually contain random data and can be erased to prevent it from being exposed and to help keep drives clean.
Internet Explorer
- Cache (Temporary Internet Files) - This option cleans cache files stored by in the Temporary Internet Files directory.
- Browse History - This option cleans the history of your browse activities.
- Typed URLs history - This option cleans the history of what you typed in the address bar of your browser.
- Cookies - Removes cookies stored by Internet Explorer from your computer. There is also an option to exclude cookies from being removed ("Keep" button). This option is helpful if you visit sites that store useful cookies that you wish to keep.
- Stored Form data and Passwords - Internet Explorer can store a record of almost everything that you type into any web site form. Form data can be things such as all the keywords you have ever typed into a search engine and personal information such as your name and address and even your passwords! Selecting this option will wash all Internet Explorer form data and passwords.
- Favorites - This option purges your Internet Explorer Favorites folder.
- Fill locked files with zeroes - This option forces PrivacyWatcher to fill locked files with zero values. It is recommended to keep this option switched on.
Netscape & Mozilla
Since Mozilla browser has open source code, there are a number of applications that are based on it: Netscape Navigator (from the 6-th version), Phoenix, Mozilla Thunderbird (former "Mozilla Mail", contains integrated browser), etc. PrivacyWatcher will work with every Mozilla-based application.
At first you should click "Profiles" button to search for profiles on your local harddisks.
Wash items for these applications are:
- Clear Cache - This option deletes files cashed by the browser.
- Delete Cookies - This option removes cookies stored by the browser.
- Clear Browse History - This option cleans the history of your browse activities.
- Delete Form Data - This option deletes web forms data stored by browser.
- Purge Mail Trash - This purges the Nescape Mail, Mozilla Mail or Mozilla Thinderbird trash folder. Cleaning this directory regularly is generally a good idea.
Opera Browser
PrivacyWatcher works with Opera of the versions 4, 5, 6 and 7.
At first you should click "Profiles" button to search for profiles on your local harddisks.
Wash items for these applications are:
- Clear Cache - This option deletes files cashed by Opera.
- Delete Cookies - This option removes cookies stored by Opera.
- Clear Browse History - This option cleans the history of your browse activities.
- Delete Last Sessions - Opera saves open pages and application windows that have been opened during the last session. This option deletes these data.
- Purge Mail Trash - This purges the Opera's "M2" mail client trash folder. Cleaning this directory regularly is generally a good idea.
Microsoft Office
PrivacyWatcher works with Microsoft Office 97, 2000, XP and above.
Wash items for these applications are:
- Clear Common Open/Save and Find History - This option cleans the open/save and find history of Microsoft Office (can be found under Start menu -> Open Office Document).
- Clear Microsoft Word tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by Word.
- Clear Microsoft Excel tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by Excel.
- Clear Microsoft Access tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by Access.
- Clear Microsoft PowerPoint tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by PowerPoint.
- Clear Microsoft Outlook tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by Outlook.
- Clear Microsoft FrontPage tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by FrontPage.
- Clear Microsoft Office Binder tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by Office Binder.
- Clear Microsoft Photo Editor tracks - This option cleans different tracks such as recently opened folders and files left by Photo Editor.
